Virginia Highland Atlanta Living

Originally founded as a streetcar suburb in the 1920s for the "Nine Mile Circle," the neighborhood of Virginia-Highland is set in the middle of Druid Hills, Lenox Park, Midtown, and Old Fourth Ward. Although this community is commonly referred to as "Virginia Highlands" and "the Highlands," Virginia-Highland is the technical and official name.

Some people to refer to it as "VaHi," in reference to NYC districts like SoHo and TriBeCa. The first residential development came in the 1890s, but by the 1960s, the area was declining in popularity because many people were moving to the suburbs.

Fast-forward a few decades to the 1980s, and Virginia-Highland was once again on the rise due to the cancelled construction of Interstate 485. Fortunately, all the space that would have been used to build the interstate was now able to be used for housing, and population and housing values began to increase again by this point.

Available properties in Virginia-Highland range from the low $500,000's to the $1,400,000's. Because most of these older homes, which were built between the early to mid-1900s, have been renovated, their values have significantly increased over the past decade or so. Known for its artsy vibe, this neighborhood is certainly attracting a younger generation and growing every year!
